Congratulations to our Eco-Racers! The three teams (and parents) who journeyed to Maryborough, surviving wind, rain and a short hailstorm, were a credit to the school and performed well above expectations. The HPV teams worked so well together they came in a close 6th and 8th over the line (against 73 competitors). The "pushcarters" earned 3rd place in their endurance event. Well done everyone, and especially Mrs Hodder, New Mr O (Mr O'Brien!), and Mr Mann. Can I borrow $25A Man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door. Son: 'Daddy, may I ask you a question?' Dad: 'Yeah sure, what it is?' replied the man. Son: 'Daddy, how much do you make an hour?' Dad: That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?' the man said angrily. Son: 'I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?' Dad: 'If you must know, I make $50 an hour?' Son: 'Oh,' the little boy replied, with his head down. 'Daddy, may I please borrow $25?' The father was furious, 'If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don't work hard everyday for such childish frivolities.' The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions only to get some money? After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $25.00 and he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door. 'Are you asleep son?' He asked. ' No daddy, I'm awake,' replied the boy. 'I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier' said the man. 'It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the $25 you asked for.' The little boy sat straight up, smiling. 'Oh, thank you daddy!' He yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, he started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money and then looked up at his father. 'Why do you want more money if you already have some?' the father grumbled. Because I didn't have enough, but now I do, the little boy replied. 'Daddy, I have $50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.' The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness. It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $50 worth of your time with someone you love. Yours in Christ, Matthew Mann Read Matthew Mann's articles in the newsletter Thumbs Up!To the Expressive Arts Tea for organising the band, "Aussie Kids Rock" to perform at the school. The children had a rocking good time! To Donna Robinson and Ali Pieper for organising and running a successful School Athletics Day combining the Track and Field events on the same day has many benefits. With some fine tuning for 2009, all the events will hopefully be included on the day. To Michael Whiting (Snr Moloney/O'connell) who with his arm in plaster, was such a big help for the teachers at the Athletics Carnival To Corey Clarke (Snr Adams) and Eliza McNamara (Snr James) who were outstanding student leaders in organising the younger students for the track events. To Millie Robinson (Snr Tomlins), Milly Burgess (Snr Adams) and Aiden Brohm (Snr Tomlins) who took time after the Athletics Carnival to thank staff for their part in running the event. To Stephanie Mann who found money at the school fete and handed it in to the Fete Committee. |
Catholic IdentityIn schools people come and go and each year there always seems to be staff changes. In our workplace someone will always take over where we left off but that is not the measure of our true effect. "What we do in life echoes in eternity". (Marcus Aurelis) There are times in our lives that we are touched by the caring and example of other people. Carmel Fitt has always been a person I admire and has helped shape the person I am today. Carmel has been the welcoming face of our office ~ when she looks at you and laughs and puts her arm around you ~ surrounding you with her joy and love, that's Carmel. She has shared in many of our journeys through life, births, deaths, personal triumphs, sickness and we will always remember her when we remember these moments. Her wise counsel has saved many of us in our relationship with our children as Carmel shares such grounded nurturing advice. Carmel instinctively knows what is important; sick children, anxious parents, newsletter days, interrupting staff, she keeps it all in balance. Her looking out for the families of St Therese has been our saviour at many times. If it weren't for Carmel (and Kevin) the tradition of the snowballs for St Therese's feast day would have gone astray. Her care has enriched so many lives making us better people and this will live on here at St. Therese's echoing in our eternity. Thanks Carmel.
